The beautiful island of Koh Phangan is a tropical paradise of coconut trees, white sandy beaches and inviting blue sea.

Visitors come for the Full Moon Party held in Haad Rin at the island’s southern tip each month, but plenty tranquil spots too, and a real sense of paradise. Scuba diving and snorkelling are popular and there are places to try yoga, Thai boxing or get a massage. Enjoying island life, exploring villages and watching the world go by is another excellent reason for visiting the island of Koh Phangan.

Scuba diving and snorkelling from Phangan offer the chance to visit several excellent sites including Sail Rock – one of the most famous dive dives in the Gulf of Thailand where whale sharks are often observed.

How to get to Koh Phangan, Thailand

Most visitors enter Thailand from Bangkok and from there a number of options for travel to Koh Phangan are available:

Budget: The cheapest option to get from Bangkok to Koh Phangan is a bus/ferry combination. Buses and coaches head from Bangkok to Chumphon where you can transfer to one of several ferries for the ride across to Phangan. Total journey time is likely to be in excess of ten hours.

Flights: There are flights between Bangkok and both Koh Samui and Surat Thani. From both ferries connect to Koh Phangan. The most direct route is to fly with Bangkok Airways to Samui, then catch a ferry for the short ~45 minute ride across to Phangan. Suratthani on the mainland leaves a longer ferry ride to Phangan, but the advantage is that the Bangkok-Suratthani route is operated by budget airlines Air Asia and Nok Air so you are likely to be able to pickup a cheaper flight than via Samui.

Climate and Best Months to Visit Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is an enjoyable place to visit at most times of the year with temperatures varying between 20 and 36 degrees celsius. The hottest season runs from mid-December till April. From May to September the weather is a little less consistent but still generally good, but moving into late October and November rain becomes heavy with the onset of the monsoon season.

Koh Phangan is a delight to visit at most times of the year apart from the monsoon season. For those who like to party, timing a visit with the world famous monthly Full Moon Party is a must.
