Trek Description and Itinerary
We’ll depart from Kanchanaburi around 08:00am, heading to our first stop; The Hellfire Pass Memorial. As part of the ‘Death Railway’ a passageway was cut through the mountain by Allied POWs, many of whom died. We’ll explore the memorial, and walk sections of the railway.
Next we head to the impressive 15M high Phra Tad Waterfall, formed by limestone cliffs. You’ll have the opportunity to swim and climb, before we take a break for coffee and lunch enjoying the scenery.
Following lunch we’ll cycle from the Dwanatenniserim Mountain along a 25Km trail passing spectacular bamboo forest, fruit gardens and a scenic view of a lake and dam (used to generate power for Kanchanaburi).
Our cycling trip takes us to Baan Suan Thaweechai Resort near the Khao Lam Lake where we’ll spend the night. We’ll enjoy dinner at the resort and relax.
On day two we’ll have breakfast at the resort before driving (by car) to a rural Karen hill tribe village. From this point on the terrain becomes more rugged so we’ll switch to a 4WD truck for the next stretch, driving through dense rainforest. We’ll stop off and make a trek through the jungle, where your guide will enlighten you on local wildlife and botany including survival and medicinal approaches learned by the hill tribe people.
By lunchtime we make our way to a jungle waterfall, where you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in preparing lunch together with the locals. We’ll try traditional BBQ chicken accompanied with sticky rice cooked in bamboo, together with fresh fruits.
From the waterfall we’ll then board traditional bamboo rafts for an 8Km journey back to the Karen village. We’ll explore the hill tribe village and meet some of the locals, including Karen women producing traditional handicrafts such as weaving.
Next we’ll take a one hour elephant ride through the jungle, ending at a relaxing natural hot spring where you’ll have the chance to take a dip in the mineral rich water.
Finally we’ll return back to Kanchanaburi by about 17:00, where you’ll be dropped off at the hotel/location of your choice.
