Chiang Mai Cycling Trip: Description

Take a break from the bustling city of Chiang Mai and join us on an exciting 70 kilometre journey into the heart of ‘real’ Northern Thailand, on the back of your very own bicycle!

We start our adventure by cycling through the spectacular fertile fields of Saraphi, where there are numerous fruit plantations, growing highly diverse crops, due to the unique climate of the area. As we pass through, we’ll make regular stops to chat with the locals and to have a welcome nibble of some of the fruits growing there!

After making a few stops at some of the local temples and markets we will arrive at Lamphun; the ancient 9th century capital of the Haripunchai kingdom. The fascinating historical site was once of great significance in the area, as can be seen by the temples and chedis (ornate towers) that lie within, and the impressive Ku Chang, the burial site of Queen Chamathewi’s favourite war elephant!

We visit a fascinating textile museum, before stopping for a delicious traditional lunch, of Khao Soi, or curried noodles; just what is needed after a morning’s cycle! Once we have had a chance to relax and watch the world go by, we then set off on the final part of our journey; to a unique Doll Museum, where we can watch artisans at work, creating ornate handcrafted dolls, using traditional techniques.

We then head back along Chiang Mai’s Ping River, taking in the evocative sight of the endless rice fields, before finishing our adventure.

Cycling, exploring and fine food; is there any better way to spend a day?
