Fly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai:

Chiang Mai is about 600Km north of the Thai capital, so by far the quickest way to get to Chiang Mai is to take a domestic flight.

Flights are available from both the main international airport (Suvarnabhumi) and the Don Muang airport to the north of the city, from which some of the low-cost airlines operate.

Airlines operating the Bangkok-Chiang Mai route include:

    The economical option; Train

If you prefer to save a few baht, you could catch a train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai instead.
Services depart from the main Hualampong train station in the city center.
It’s quite a long journey, but you can catch an overnight sleeper train and the beds are sufficiently comfortable that you should be able to get some rest en-route.
